US Sports Client Frank Zombo Wins Super Bowl
February 9, 2010 | Posted by JS
Dallas- US Sports Client Frank Zombo has just won the Super bowl, topping off a spectacular rookie year. Frank had a great game, including a sack against Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
"Frank Zombo has had just an incredible rookie year, winning the Super Bowl and being a part of such a great organization like the Green Bay Packers is very special. This is a day he and his family will always remember. Frank has always been a Champion winning at Central Michigan and the Mac Championship, so hopefully this is the start of several NFL Championships. I and all my staff at US Sports are proud to have a Champion like Frank Zombo on our team at US Sports.

Jason Hunter: An Action Sports Junkie

Denver- Genetics never should have let Jason Hunter become a professional football player, let alone a hulking outside linebacker.
Hunter's mother, Terri, is just 4-feet-11, and his father, James, is a couple inches shy of 6-feet. But Hunter hit his growth spurt midway through high school and has been playing football since.
The Broncos snatched Hunter, a Charlotte, N.C., native who played four years at Appalachian State, off the free-agent wire midway through training camp. He is now starting alongside Robert Ayers at outside linebacker, his first experience as a stand-up linebacker. Hunter played defensive end in college at Appalachian State and his first four years in the NFL in Green Bay and Detroit. Full Story

Denver- Brian Dawkins's second-quarter interception was crucial in helping the Broncos maintain momentum; instead of having their lead trimmed to one score, Denver regained possession and turned the advantage into three scores (17 points, to be precise) by halftime.
Dawkins's leaping grab was one of the prettiest pickoffs of his career, but it might not have been possible without the pass rush of outside linebacker Jason Hunter, who became more than just a run defender Sunday, sprinting through Seahawks fullback Quinton Ganther to hit Hasselbeck and coax a hurried, errant throw. Charlotte- By Brett Honeycutt

New York Jets linebacker Kenwin Cummings played in only one regular season game last season, a wild card playoff contest, but it didn't matter to people in his hometown of Maxton, N.C., which has a population of about 3,000.
Family and friends were proud of what Cummings had done – just making it to the NFL was an accomplishment. Playing? That was great, too.
You see, Cummings is Lumbee Indian – the largest tribe east of the Mississippi River and ninth largest in the nation – and one of only three Native Americans in the NFL.
"I definitely take pride in being part of the few in the NFL," he says. "Other people in my tribe say you're putting us on the board. It's definitely an honor."
What’s also an honor is coming back to Maxton to see family and friends, and to speak at churches.
"It’s definitely humbling," says Cummings, a 6-foot-3, 250-pounder who will turn 24 on July 23, and is entering his third year in the league after playing at Division II Wingate University. "The first time I came home, there's this little local restaurant, you know they have this welcome sign and it said, 'Welcome back Kenwin Cummings.' It’s kind of humbling. I don't know how to explain it."
It definitely didn’t matter to children that he played on the practice squad before being added to the roster late last season. To them, he was as big as any other star in the NFL, and they wanted to hear what he had to say.
"A youth pastor spoke and I gave a testimony about my life, some experiences that I've had, some trials and tribulations," says Cummings, who became a Christian on Mother's Day of 1998.
"The Holy Spirit led me to Him, opened my eyes and opened my heart, and I accepted Him and went on from there," says Cummings, who, after his NFL career is finished, would love to work as a youth director at a church.
His talks in church probably reminded some of his 87-year-old grandfather, Coolidge Cummings, a pastor who gave his first sermon at age 16 and still preaches today.
But the youth were focused on Kenwin Cummings those particular Sundays.
"Everybody knows you and you can use that in a very positive way, like holding a youth rally," he says. "That's the greatest honor that I could have by playing in the NFL, being able to reach out to people, when a lot of times you wouldn’t be able to reach out to them in the same way."
"In my hometown there’s so much talent, but they're kind of just led in the wrong direction. There were some kids who were way more talented, but they never got to use that God-given talent. That's what I would like to get into and use my notoriety to help bring them back to church, lead them to God and into the right direction."
Despite his soft heart for people, he is known for his toughness on the field, his uncanny strength and working hard in the weight room. He was impressive enough that Jets' starting inside linebacker Bart Scott told Randy Lange on newyorkjets.com that Cummings was one of the strongest on the team.
Cummings, who loves to fish and hunt, and has raised Red Angus all natural beef in Maxton with his father for six years, calls it "farm boy strength." He says it helped that he grew up on a 30-acre farm, threw hay bails, dug holes and had to put posts in the ground. It built a certain type of toughness, he says.
Regardless of that, though, he is humbled where he is today.
"I couldn't be blessed any more," he says. "We had a great season. I was able to make my debut in one of the playoff games. It went well. The experience of going and winning one of these playoff games, the fans, the atmosphere, it's just an adrenaline you can't get anywhere else. It's pretty amazing."

Cummings Making Strong Bid as ILB Backup
May 28, 2010 | Posted by JS
New York- Two consecutive days this week, Jets head coach Rex Ryan went out of his way to mention his new man in the middle.
"The guy that's really jumped out at me is Kenwin Cummings," Ryan said in the last question of his live chat with Jets fans from his Atlantic Health Jets Training Center office on Wednesday. "He's put on about five pounds of muscle and looks more athletic. He's a 255-pound linebacker who's really moving around. We need to have that third inside linebacker right now and it looks like he's got a foothold on it."
Cummings, who isn't all that new — he's a second-year player in his third season as a Jet — is happy for the recognition.
"That builds your confidence. It's always good, especially when you hear it coming from the head coach," he said. "I feel like everything's going good. I feel healthy and things are going as planned so far. I'm being a little patient and my time will come." Full Story

Great Article about Frank Zombo from Packer Report Magazine
May 6, 2010 | Posted by JS
Charlotte, NC- If only every day for Frank Zombo was like that chilly late November afternoon.
In his final home game at Central Michigan, Zombo — the Chippewas’ star defensive end — dropped into coverage. He almost never did that, and Northern Illinois’ quarterback threw it right to him. Zombo ran back the interception 27 yards for the clinching touchdown.
Zombo was a three-year starter who ranks second in school history with 25.5 sacks, including 6.5 as a senior. He went undrafted and wound up signing a rookie free agent contract with the Packers. He’s one of three college defensive linemen who were signed to add depth at outside linebacker. Dropping into coverage is now a staple of his role on the defense.
"It’s kind of still surreal, just being here and looking in the mirror and seeing a Packers helmet on or a Packers jersey,” Zombo said after Sunday’s practice. “To see how far I’ve come, it’s quite an accomplishment. I’m just going to keep going with it.”
At just shy of 6-foot-4 and 254 pounds, Zombo certainly looks the part in his new role. He was listed at 269 in college, and Zombo said the weight loss has helped him adapt to his new role. Zombo, a three-time academic all-region selection, quickly latched onto Kevin Greene, who he called a “heck of a coach.”
Zombo, who’s making up for his skin-deep knowledge of the playbook but going all-out on every play, fell into a good situation with the Packers. Behind presumed starters Clay Matthews III and Brad Jones, only veteran Brady Poppinga has anything resembling an NFL resume. The other holdovers are Cyril Obiozor, who, like Zombo, Tim Knicky andJohn Russell, was an undrafted free agent, and Robert Francois. Francois was a late-season addition to the practice squad and is competing at this weekend’s rookie camp.
“My agent (Robert Walker) recommended it,” Zombo said of his decision to sign with Green Bay. “The tradition here is second to none. And their situation at outside linebacker, hopefully I can help out this year.”
“When you’re a free agent, that’s what you look for,” Zombo said of the apparent opportunity in front of him. “You don’t want to go to a place where there’s a lot of players at your position, because the chances of making the team are slimmer. That’s why you hire an agent. He figures that out.”
Zombo, Knicky and Russell are all stationed in the back corner of the auxiliary locker room. Maybe one of them makes the final roster.
“It’s kind of hard to think of it like that,” Zombo said. “We’re just developing as good friends and trying to help each other out. We’re only in Day 2 and I already feel like we’re a bunch of old buds. We eat together. We’re creating a pretty good bond.”
