Apps in the NFL: Dallas Cowboys' Kennan Gilchrist, Rams' Parker Collins square off


A pair of NFL rookies from Appalachian State were on the field at the same time when the Los Angeles Rams beat the visiting Dallas Cowboys 13-10 in a preseason game Saturday night.

Parker Collins played on the Rams' offensive line, and linebacker Kennan Gilchrist had one tackle for the Cowboys.

* San Francisco center Daniel Kilgore has won the starting job as the 49ers recently released Jeremy Zuttah, who was acquired from Baltimore in a March trade after he appeared in the 2017 Pro Bowl.

“This is my fourth head coach in four years and a new GM,” Kilgore told NBC Sports. “It’s human nature to think the worst in every situation. I bowed my chest a little bit and kind of got upset and mad. But at the same time, you got to respect the competition.

“They brought in a heck of a guy to compete with. For me, it just took my game up to another level. It took my workouts and my whole demeanor in the offseason to another level, just knowing my job was on the line.”

*Defensive end Ronald Blair (San Francisco) had one tackle in a 27-17 win against Kansas City on Friday.

* Safety Doug Middleton (New York Jets) had three tackles and two pass breakups in a 7-3 win against Tennessee on Saturday.

* Right tackle Kendall Lamm started for the Houston Texans in their 27-17 loss to Carolina on Thursday.
