Jeremy Clark goes to Jets in 6th round as Michigan breaks program record for NFL draft picks

ANN ARBOR - Jeremy Clark's final year with the Wolverines was cut short by a season-ending knee injury.

The former Michigan cornerback was also denied a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA.

However, neither was enough to prevent him from getting a shot at the NFL. Clark was drafted by the New York Jets with the 13th pick of the sixth round (No. 197 overall) in the draft on Saturday afternoon.

Clark's selection gave Michigan 11 players picked in this year's draft, which set a new program record. The previous high was 10 Wolverines taken in both 1972 and 1974. Since the draft was reduced to seven rounds in 1994, the modern record for Michigan was seven picks, in both 2007 and 2008.

The record for picks by one school in the NFL draft is Texas with 17 in 1984. However, since the draft was reduced to seven rounds in 1994, the modern record is Ohio State with 14 in 2004.

Michigan safety Jabrill Peppers (Browns) and defensive end Taco Charlton (Cowboys) were both taken in Thursday's first round while defensive end Chris Wormley (Ravens), cornerback Jourdan Lewis (Cowboys), safety Delano Hill (Seahawks) and receiver Amara Darboh (Seahawks) were all picked in Friday's third round. Linebacker Ben Gedeon (Vikings), defensive tackle Ryan Glasgow (Bengals) and receiver Jehu Chesson (Chiefs) were all picked in the fourth round on Saturday while tight end Jake Butt (Broncos) was selected in the fifth round.

As a fifth-year senior last season, Clark, 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, made three starts at cornerback before suffering a torn ACL in a win over Penn State on Sept. 24, resulting in him missing the rest of the season. He had 10 tackles and three pass breakups in four games last season.
